Minjee Lee Wins U.S. Women’s Open

Over the weekend, Australian professional golfer Minjee Lee won the U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles in South Carolina by an impressive four shots over American Mina Hairgae. This is Minjee’s second major victory, the first coming last year at the Amundi Evian Championship, where she won with a total score of -18. At one point in the tournament, Minjee Lee was -15 par which was the lowest anyone has ever been during a U.S. Women’s Open but ultimately tied the record low by finishing at -13. She is going home with the beautiful Harton S. Semple trophy and a record $1.8 million in earnings, which is the highest payout ever on the LPGA Tour. The second-place spot in this event was awarded $1 million, which would have placed you at number 14 on the money list last season on the LPGA Tour. As the LPGA continues to grow in popularity, we will see these purses increase.

Billy Horschel Wins the Memorial Tournament

Billy Horschel took control of the Memorial Tournament early and did not let up until it was over. Similar to Minjee Lee at the U.S. Women’s Open, Billy Horschel won the tournament by four shots at -13 over Aaron Wise. In the last 14 months, Horschel has managed to rack up three wins, which gives him seven total career wins and elevates him to number 11 in the world golf rankings. Billy Horschel has always been known as a fiery golfer and a world-class ball-striker, but he seems to remain under the radar of golf coverage and fans across the country. Could this change? He’s a player that you’ll want to keep your eyes on as we head into the U.S. Open in two weeks.

LIV Golf League Drama

It’s official. A field has been set for the very first LIV Golf League tournament in London, and several big names have now pledged their alliance to them including Kevin Na, Taylor Gooch, and Dustin Johnson. From the perspective of golf fans everywhere, this is a hot topic of conversation. Some fans are giving LIV a big thumbs up, while others couldn’t be less interested in seeing what comes of it. To give some more details on the first event, it will be three rounds, no cut, and will include a massive $20 million purse, with $4 million being awarded to first place. With a league this new, it will be difficult for players and fans to fully feel the drama or pressure of the final round, which will certainly make watching the event interesting. This league is different than anything we’ve seen professionally in the past but does that mean it will be successful? Let us know your thoughts on this league in the comments!
