This is the kind of story that as a parent is heartwarming and as a golfer, who hasn’t had a hole-in-one in their life, is annoying.

Too bad she’s not old enough because this would be a great time for Lainey Kathrein to start playing the lottery.

Defying astronomical odds, the Lexington sophomore scored a hole-in-one with her driver on the 264-yard No. 18 at Brookside Golf Course in Ashland during last Saturday’s North Central Ohio Girls Golf League Tournament.

It’s the third known ace by a local high school golfer this season. But what sets Lainey’s apart is that it came on a par 4 hole, making it a double eagle or what is otherwise known as an “albatross.”
